The U.S. Minority Business Development Agency and the National Minority Supplier Development Council are co-hosting a series of educational seminars and workshops at the NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange in Austin, Texas, next week. The presentations will focus on various aspects of doing business with the federal government and include information on infrastructure development, trade and exports, and federal procurement opportunities. There will also be opportunities for attendees to receive one-on-one business counseling and coaching from MDBA staff and representatives of the federal governemnt.
The Conference opens October 14 and runs through October 20, 2018, and is being held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
Matchmaker: Government-to-Business Exchanges
On Monday October 15 at 10:15 a.m.,the MBDA will host Matchmaker: Government-to-Business Exchanges, a series of 20-minute rountables during which business owners and entreprenuers will meet with representattives from federal agencies. Acquisitions officers from the Department of Labor, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Transportation and more will provide an analysis of their top spending categories by NAICS and discuss spending forecasts for fiscal year 2019. Attendees will also have an opportunitity to present their capabilities, so dress for the occasion, and bring your A-game!

Getting in the Zones…Opportunity Zones

As part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Congress created a program called Opportunity Zones, which provides tax incentives to businesses that invest private capital in low-income and rural communities. During this panel discussion, attendees will learn about the 8,700 locations that are part of this program and discuss investment opportunities and potential projects. The panel will be moderated by Marysol McGee, senior analyst for the Division of Community Affairs for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Panelists will include Jeff Merkowitz, the Senior Advisor of Community Development Financial Institutions at the Department of Treasury; Diane Sumpter, president and CEO of DESA, Inc. and Walter Davis, founder of Peachtree Providence Partners.
