The State of New York is hosting its 8th Annual MWBE Forum on October 3rd and 4th at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Themed “Grow With NYS,” the always popular event will feature over 185 exhibitors and host an expected 2,000 attendees. It will include the New York State MWBE Boot Camp, which connects MWBEs to regional technical assistance resources, such as Small Business Development Centers, Procurement and Technical Assistance Centers and the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program. A series of Expos will also provide information on a variety of state-sponsored assistance programs, such as the NY State Surety Bond Assistance Program and the Bridge to Success Loan Program.
Additionally, the event will feature over 45 panel sessions, round tables and workshops aimed at educating MWBE’s about a wide range of subjects such as responding to bid proposals, accessing capital and finding contracting opportunities with the state. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with decision makers and procurement officers from a number of state agencies, including:
- The Bridge Authority
- City University of New York
- Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery
- Long Island Power Authority
- Office of General Services
- NYS Department of Financial Services
- NYS Gaming Commission
- And many more.
“At the Table” Meetings
In addition to the exciting array of group events, the MWBE Forum will also provide an opportunity for select business owners to attend a one-on-one, 10-minute meeting with a procurement officer in their industry. Open only to New York State certified MWBEs, these “Business Meet-ups” will offer a rare opportunity for woman and minority business owners to present their capabilities to decision makers and get tips on how to successfully compete on upcoming bids. The sessions will be held in two parts: one with private sector firms and one with government agencies and authorities. The market sectors represented will include:
- Architecture and Engineering
- Construction and Construction Related Commodities
- Energy Efficiency
- Financial and Professional Services: Legal, Accounting, Auditing, Advertising, Marketing
- Information Technology
